The GED Coach is a nonprofit 501c(3) tax-exempt charitable organization that is a Texas-based company helping to build stronger communities through literacy improvement, education, inspirational messages and vocational coaching for adults young and old. We have multiple avenues for our outreach programs.
To foster uplifted spirits and self-esteem in adults in facilities for persons in transition (prisons, jails, and transitional living facilities such as homeless shelters, halfway houses and three-quarter-way houses) who would benefit from (and are seeking) literacy improvement, educational advancement, or vocational opportunity resources/guidance, we offer/provide free materials as supportive resources for these adults. We provide both printed and digital content, such as PDF files, books, self-study materials, and uplifting audio messages (MP3 files) and video content (MP4 files). These free materials are provided by us to help foster improved literacy, education, hope, and self-esteem. The Christian materials that we offer consist mostly of the testimonies, faith messages, devotionals, lectures, Bible studies, and Bibles. The materials are offered by us directly to the chaplains and spiritual growth directors at such facilities. We only send in materials as requested by the chaplains and spiritual growth directors, and only to the chaplains and spiritual growth directors, who can then use the materials in their local ministries. Digital content can be delivered as emailed PDF documents, on flash drives, or via Dropbox links to the content (using access codes provided by us) according to the needs, capabilities and preferences of the chaplains and spiritual growth directors of the requesting facility.
For adults in transitional living facilities (presently only in the Houston area where we are based), we also offer free GED tutoring and study materials so they can move towards getting a better job and, if desired, furthering their education. Many jobs have a minimum entry-level job requirement of having either a GED or a high school diploma.
We also offer free vocational interest testing and guidance to adults in transitional living facilities (presently only in the Houston area). Using the ONET tool available online free helps to guide clients of transitional living facilities towards jobs in work settings and organizations they would enjoy based on their self-selected interests and preferences. These tools can help clients direct their occupational pursuits along lines that are more congruent with their likes and interests, so that the chances of success in that occupational path are more likely to lead to continued employment, personal growth, job satisfaction, and ultimately feeling good about themselves and what they are doing for a living. More in-depth assessments of their vocational interests (Strong Interest Inventory) and personality traits (Myers-Briggs) are also made available free on a limited case-by-case basis. The establishment of personal relationships in these settings can help to foster in the adult a reestablished sense of individual responsibility for "self-management" that can enhance the adult’s desire and commitment to follow through on the path to job and/or educational success with a sense of pride and accomplishment.
